Political problem for Europe is that the voters don’t agree
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, an unrepentant trans-nationalist and globalist, again called on the individual nation-states of Europe to surrender their sovereignty to the the unelected and unaccountable EU bureaucrats in Brussels. During a speech at an event hosted by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Berlin, Merkel made it clear that before she steps down in 2021, she intends to vigorously implement the globalist agenda, the will of the German people who opposed her policies be damned.
This haughty attitude was manifest when she responded to politicians in her own party who had lamented they should have listened to the will of its citizens before signing the controversial UN migration pact. For these politicians, who had the radical idea of abiding by the wishes of the German electorate, Merkel had this to say, “ But the people are individuals who are living in a country, they are not a group who define themselves as the German people.”
Merkel accused those who opposed opening Germany’s borders to millions of Syrians who had no interest in cultural assimilation, of holding an outdated notion of patriotism,
“because patriotism is when you include others in German interests and accept win-win situations”.
Merkel’s fellow one-worlders, French President Emmanuel Macron shares Merkel’s disdain for national sovereignty. Macron stated in a Remembrance Day speech that “patriotism is the exact opposite of nationalism nationalism is treason.”
There is no better example of the growing rift between European political elites and those they purportedly govern, than the sanctimonious pontificating by world citizens Merkel and Macron. Open borders, fealty to the religion of global warming and eradication of the pesky, antiquated concept of the nation-state, all are policies favored and championed by European elites like Merkel.
Merkel and Macron would prefer to institute a regime under the beneficent rule of 21st century transnational administrators situated in Brussels. Each nation will subjugate its will to the general will of the EU as expressed by the central bureaucracy in Belgium.
The current, serious and intractable political problem for Europe is that the voters don’t subscribe to any of the policy priorities of the elites. This was made abundantly clear when the French people rioted over the imposition of a carbon tax to fund Macron’s pious and completely ineffectual war against global warming.
Michael Brendan Dougherty, has it exactly right when he claims that the European Union, of its own accord, will come to an ignominious end and “crash spectacularly.”
